PUTTING YOUR HOUSE IN ORDER Most of us like to think we are immortal and therefore do not organise our affairs. As a result of this frequently a spouse, partner or children are left with a huge problem particularly if you have not left a will. 1 Make sure you have a will Why do we think this is so important? 1 A will sets out exactly how you want your assets disposed of so there can be no family arguments 2 A will ensures that your spouse or partner receives capital and income to live on. 3 A will means that if you are not married or in a civil partnership, your partner may benefit from your assets. The laws of intestacy mean that without a will he or she may not benefit 2 Make sure you have given someone power to deal with your affairs if you are no longer capable of doing this. You should discuss this with a Solicitor. 3 Make sure that you have clearly set out details of all your assets and their whereabouts. We may be able to help with this through our asset care service. Please contact us for more details
